Second-hand Book Donation to Support Literacy

Friends,

In thinking about issues of the digital divide, sustainability and poverty, our students have been trying to come up with ways in which they can genuinely satisfy the IBDP CAS programme’s criteria "engages with issues of global importance".

We have recently become associated with an NGO which is planning to set up a community centre in a local slum. A major plank in this NGO's platform is the promotion and support of literacy. Our students have started collecting second-hand/used books from out school and community.

We are wondering if there are other schools out there from other parts of the world that could send books to us. Not only would that help the community centre, but other school students could become genuinely involved in supporting a project which addresses the digital divide (literacy), sustainability and poverty. It could be an individual or a "class' project and is certainly not limited to DP students. The NGO's central community centre has French, Spanish and many other language books, so they don't have to be English.
